Hello folks. Good to hear of this forum.
I started playing English concertina around 1985 following a visit to Lancaster and hearing several players in a pub session. At that time I was playing 48 bass piano accordion and the even smaller box seemed a natural progression - highly portable.
In the late '80s I bought a Lachenal 'new model' wooden end which I still use. I played this first in Galloway, then around some festivals, and in Edinburgh sessions around 89-91. I play mainly Scots pipe and fiddle tunes on it, and also do some song accompanying.
In the early 1990s I moved to Glasgow and played concertina and accordion in the Cloud Howe Ceilidh Band for three years. I also acquired a 56 key Wheatstone, which I've tried to develop more for song accompaniment - but still find my fingers more suited to the smaller box. I still play a bit in ceilidh bands, but not regularly.
The Lachenal really needs an overhaul now - can anyone recommend someone in Scotland who could do a good job?

Sorry Steve, but I'm afraid I don't know anyone in Scotland who could sort that out for you. I'm based in Northern Ireland but I always send mine over to Dave Prebble in South Yorkshire. Perhaps someone else here can help you out with info on someone North of the border. Cheers Dick
