Recently, I contacted all the Salvation Army branches over here in Northern Ireland, asking if anyone had a Concertina they no longer used or needed. Well, as my Mum used to say .. "If you don't ask, you won't get!" Anyway, last friday, after a few E-mails between us, a couple arrived up here from Belfast & GAVE me their old Lachenal English Brass Reeded Treble Concertina! There's a lot to be said for a ..... "Gid Scots tongue in yer heed!" Now naturally this little chap is a little the worse for wear, with one reed snapped off, a few pads missing & veneer cracking on one end. Hardly surprising really, considering it's spent most of the last 30 years in a box at the foot of a wardrobe! However, I reckon it won't take too much work, to get it ship shape again. Incidentally, the Serial No is 38873..... which means it was made around 1900/1901 I believe. So the couple who gave me this Concertina are actually long time members of the Salvation Army ....... & so is this instrument. It's almost identical to this one: LachenalWhen you consider how many hundreds, or maybe even thousands, of Concertinas have been thrown out & dumped over the years, it is surely a worthwhile exercise. Who knows, you could end up saving a lovely Aeola from the skip, for your trouble! :-) Cheers Dick
