I just thought you might like to know that my new treasure arrived today! Yeeee Haaaw
I am now the proud guardian of Æola Baritone #31366!
Yes, that's her over there on the left ... my avatar!
It's wonderful to finally get my hands on it.
It seems to be in great shape for its 81 years.
Of course, it has the usually marks below the main buttons, but otherwise, it looks like it's been well looked after.
I'm quite surprised that the buttons are actually a little smaller than those on my TT, but I suppose even Wheatstone didn't use only one size of button over the years.
Already, I can see why they fit 8 fold bellows to these big beasties & thankfully the bellows appear to be brand new on this machine!
Of course I've never player a Baritone so I have nothing to compare it with, other than my TT, but it seems to be much louder .... so I guess I'll just have to learn to play fewer bum notes!
The Thumb Strap is much tighter on this instrument than on my TT.
On this one I can only just squeeze the ends of my Thumbs into the straps.
On the TT my thumbs go right through.
Which would be the norm?
Of course I have the Hand Straps on the Baritone & it's interesting working with those for the first time. I've been playing it for the last hour & my Pinkies don't hurt, but if I play for that time on my TT they do, so I'll have to think about fitting hand straps to my TT, too.
With the low, low F now on this one, I'm just knocked out by the sound of a simple low F chord.
Anyway, as soon as I get comfortable with it, I promise I'll post a YouTube, for the Crack.
Now if you'll excuse me, I must get back to it.
Cheers
Dick
P.S. Here's my favourite Baritone YouTube
