A quick reminder of the Muchty festival this coming week-end (14th-16th August) The folk weekend comes as the climax of a week of community festival events. There's a mixture of singing and instrumental sessions, and you'll find me either in the Cycle Tavern (main bar) or the Forest Hills Hotel (3 separate rooms for sessions, although the small front bar is best for singers). There is a competition for Miscellaneous instrument, which I've sometimes entered on concertina. For more info see Muchty Festival Website

Aye many's the Muchty I've been to. Sadly the annual pilgrimage to see Jimmy Shand is a thing of the past. Great wee place for a festival though & there were always loads of musicians turned out for it. Good Luck with your Miscellaneous Concertina David! Cheers Dick

The traditional music weekend in 2010 is 13-15 August.
I hope this year is an improvement on last year. The Forest Hills Hotel decided to do its own thing, and was avoided by the Festival goers, leaving everybody squashed into the Cycle tavern.

Things are looking a lot better this year in terms of venues. The Forest Hills Hotel is back to normal, which gives three session spaces, the large downstairs bar, the wee bar at ground level and the upstairs room. Also, the Royal Hotel has reopened, after being closed up for a few years. I believe that it's only open as a bar, not a hotel, but it was always a good place for a tune, and some of the Festival hosted sessions will take place there. Meanwhile the Cycle Tavern continues as before.
Look on the website for the full program.

The date for 2011 is the weekend of 12-14 August. It should be another good weekend of music.
