Hello, I am certainly a lost intruder in this landscape but I hope my curiosity will be forgiven and that maybe some of my fairly long time experience can be of use for the group some time. I am the secretary of Swedish Concertina Society and leader of its concertina band since I initiated both in 1983 and as having been an ergonomist by profession I have been rather active in debate and practical efforts on reforming concertinas to improve playing conditions.

The "Swedish Concertina Society", that sounds very interesting Guran, especially as Scotland only has a Forum ... so far! Does the society have its own website? If so, please post the link, I'd enjoy checking it out, even although I sadly speak no Swedish. Cheers Dick

Which reminds me Guran, you wrote: So I'm wondering, I know you weren't meaning countryside, but I'm curious to know if the scene I have used as background, couldn't just as well be a scene from Sweden? In my ignorance, I always thought the Scandinavian countryside had a lot in common with the Scottish one. Cheers Dick

1) Swedish Concertina Society. Sorry to say we never have had a website but if I stop writing so much crap on various forums maybe I get some spare time to fix it one day... I initiated the society in 1981 inspired by a bunch of old time ICA members, among them Frank Butler. We had about 30 members in the first years, most of them recruited ïn association to Salvation Army. Later on the most active members formed a band with up to 10 players and we have had monthly meetings until a couple of years back when reduction down to just 4-5 and related ageing made it fade out quite a bit. Oldest member now is 96... 2) Scottish landscape - I'd rather say Norway is more alike than Sweden but sure there are similarities...

Go for it Guran! Well, I think these things often go up & down in cycles, so perhaps now is a good time to push it again. Maybe there are lots of budding young Concertina players over there, hiding out in the fjords, just waiting for some encouragement from experienced older players .... you never know! Good Luck Cheers Dick
